AEL Anodes

AEL Anode Product Features

Advanced extended-life AEL Anodes offer impressed current cathodic protection systems premium features and capabilities that improve bottom line financial performance by reducing maintenance and operating costs and improving system performance over traditional anodes:

  • AEL Anodes are pre-cast assemblies designed for reliable, extended service life CP systems

  • Anode core utilizes mixed metal oxide (MMO) technology for optimal transfer of impressed current CP energy into the body of the anode

  • Anode body is formed from a cast block of conductive and impermeable material that protects the anode core against corrosion and provides a large, low energy density surface to efficiently transfer energy electronically to the anode backfill layer

  • Anode connection to the CP rectifier is through pre-assembled dual-jacketed Halar® or Kynar insulated copper cable to maximize the operational lifetime of the anode and ensure sufficient current carrying capacity

  • The Halar cable is factory bonded to the anode using a double compression crimp and sealed in a block of resin to provide maximum robustness and prevent water penetration, further improving anode performance and longevity

  • Available with a variety of economical standard electrical cable lengths or with client specific custom cable lengths

  • Anodes can be assembled in parallel multi-anode systems to increase CP system impressed current capacity

  • Anodes can be utilized in both vertical or horizontal anode beds

  • Anode can be used with a variety of backfill and cap materials, though the use of SAE impermeable long-life backfill is recommended for maximum operational performance

  • Normally AEL anodes do not require centering devices unless specified

  • Anodes meet NEC and CEC requirements

AEL Anode Product Family

The family of advanced, long-life AEL Anodes is currently offered in two variations, according to the soil conditions in which they will be installed and operated:

AEL Anode

AEL Anodes are designed for use in all soil media, from non corrosive, to severely corrosive and highly saline environments. The precast material is specifically designed to protect the mmo anode within from chemical attack, while enhancing the electronic flow of current to the outer wall of the installed system. Each AEL anode is rated at an output of 5 amps DC, and come with a securely attached and protected specific length anode wire to connect to a surface junction box. Cable lengths are normally provided for an even spread of current in the conductive column and will vary by the specific position of the anode by number.

Anode Product Warranty

AEL anodes are warranted against failure for one year from the date of purchase. The warranty is void in the event of handling or operational abuse, such as overdriving the anode with higher than rated current levels.

Applications

The AEL Anode family has been specifically designed for use in vertical and horizontal anode beds of impressed current cathodic protection systems in the oil and gas sector, including:

  • Production well casings

  • Pipelines

  • Refineries

  • Tank farms

  • Other metal infrastructure subject to electrolytic corrosion

  • High-salinity and harsh soil environments

Benefits
  • Longer anode life offers significantly lower maintenance and replacement costs

  • Available with fixed length electrical cables to reduce supply time and offer lower cost benefits of standardized production

  • Available in several lifetime and current ratings to fit a wide variety of application requirements

  • Anode design is water impermeable, reducing anode corrosion and extending anode lifetime

  • Anode design facilitates electronic energy transfer by lowering the energy density of the anode surface, thereby reducing out-gassing during operation

  • AEL anode offers an effective solution for high salinity soil conditions that will extend performance and service life well beyond that of traditional anode products

  • Simplified installation, as normally AEL anodes do not require centering devices unless specified

  • Conforms to applicable NEC and CEC electrical code requirements
